“Rooftop Spaces: Converting Unoccupied Rooftops into Usable Space”
Presented by Mr. Kenrick Hartman, LEED, RRC, P.E., Senior Associate, WJE New York
Rooftop spaces can act as highly desirable amenity spaces or as key elements in resourceful and sustainable design. But what about existing roofs that are not currently being used? How difficult is it to convert a roof into usable space? This presentation will discuss strategies and design considerations in converting existing unoccupied rooftops into usable spaces. The presenter will outline topics related to the structure, roof assembly, egress, and fire safety. Case studies that highlight the presenter’s experiences will also be presented.
Mr. Hartman has managed projects related to the investigation of roofing, waterproofing, and facade systems as well as construction period related services for multimillion dollar repair and renovation projects. He has authored many papers on topics related to his areas of practice and has been featured as a speaker at several industry leading events.
